I had a lot of white angora yarn, but not enough for an entire sweater.  I finally decided to create this sweater using the 100% angora for the bodice and 100% linen for the off-the-shoulder sleeves.  To give it some more panache, I added the knitted bobble clusters of grapes made out of the linen with angora leaves and vines.  It looks fabulous with a long black skirt and a strand of pearls. My husband is allergic to wool so I purchased this extremely yummy stone-colored yarn from one of my favorite eBay vendors.  This yarn is 55% silk, 15% Bourette silk, and 30% linen.   The sweater is knit with 2 strands using size 2 circular knitting needles.  I began this sweater in March 2005 and finished it just before Thanksgiving. 

This yarn was perfect for intricate patternwork.  I used 3 different patterns from Barbara G. Walker's Charted Knitting Designs.  They are:  

  • Center:  Celtic Flourish, pg. 122
  • Middle panels:  Saxon Braid, pg. 80
  • Edge panels:   Spliced Oval, pg. 67
