I can answer your question regarding the cast-on discrepancy. The cast-on instructions on page 11 is for the regular knit carriage. The instructions and hints on pages 53 and 67 are for the lace carriage, which is an optional accessory.

My machine didn't come with any patterns for the knit contour/radar, so I am trying to figure that thing out. i.e.. how to adapt a sewing pattern to the knit radar. My frustration is that the instructions in the book on how to knit a jumper without using the knit radar are for tiny Japanese women. Too bad for you if your bust measurement is larger than 37".

My machine also came with pieces that I have no idea what they are for.
